PSAT/NMSQT (Offered in the Fall) Who takes the exam: The exam is for both Sophomores and Junior students
When is the exam taken: At Champaign Central High School, students will take the PSAT/NMSQT exam on Wednesday, October 10th, 2018. On this day, only the junior class will take the exam. - Registration Tuesday, September 4th, through Tuesday, September 11th, in the counseling office before and after school only - Cost is $18 or fee waiver for those with FRL; registration covered for AVID students
What is the benefit for students?: - The PSAT serves as a National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Juniors are automatically considered for this if the student completes the PSAT exam.

Why take the PSAT/NMSQT?: - To practice for the SAT. On average, students who take the PSAT/NMSQT earn higher scores on the SAT than those who do not. This may be because the tests have the same formats, directions, sample questions, and question types. - To earn scholarships and academic recognition. Juniors who take the PSAT/NMSQT and meet entry requirements may enter National Merit Scholarship Corporation's scholarship competition as well as be recognized by other programs that give special recognition to high-achieving students.
PSAT 8/9 and PSAT 10 (Offered in the Spring) The PSAT 8/9 and PSAT 10 are practice SAT tests intended for freshman and sophomore students respectively. Results from the PSAT can provide valuable feedback on academic college readiness and relative strengths and weaknesses as demonstrated in a standardized testing environment. The PSAT 8/9 is administered to all freshman and the PSAT 10 is administered to all sophomores during a school day in the spring semester.
