Princeton University, Summer Journalism Program
The Princeton Summer Journalism Program is a free journalism institute at Princeton University for current high school juniors from low-income backgrounds. We exist to encourage high school students from historically underrepresented backgrounds to learn about the field and report the news in a way that is inclusive, evidence-based, thorough, and nuanced. With so much uncertainty in the world, our overall well-being benefits from access to reliable, factual news that represents the full range of lived experiences.

Below are a number of ways for you to connect with us virtually to learn about the program and how we can support you and your students through the application process. In addition, I personally invite each of you to email or call me directly if you have students in the pool to ensure that they understand and complete the application. Too often students become discouraged because they have difficulty getting required materials or are confused. We are here to help. Our mission is about access, and we are committed to making this process manageable for you all during these frenzied times.

Ways to connect:
  • Nominate a student - if you can't reach all of the students you'd like to apply, nominate them and we will reach out to them directly.
  • Join us for an educator's coffee hour or public information session to learn more about the program from current students or tell us what you need.
  • Let us come to you: request a "school visit" if you'd like for us to present to a group of high school students or educators in your high school, organization, or district at once over Zoom.
  • Visit our "Connect" page and review our FAQs to stay updated about the program and how to engage.

University College Dublin, Summer Program:

Through a series of taught lectures and interactive workshops at UCD, we introduce students to the academic culture in Ireland and the variety of subjects they can study. We also introduce students to Ireland's rich history and cultural identity through field trips around Dublin and the Irish countryside. At the end of the two weeks, we hope the students will have found that the academic programs and vibrant cultural heritage will be a great fit for future studies.

UCD has worked hard over recent months to introduce a wide range of protocols that will allow students to return to a new form of normal in Summer 2021.  The High School Summer Programme will be delivered in line with government and public health guidelines, and we anticipate that students will join us in Dublin for this in-person programme.

To be eligible for this program, students must:

Demonstrate a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Write a brief essay about their interest in the program and what would make them a good candidate for the program.
